Quiet Morning Routine for Moms: How I Create Peace Before My Toddler Wakes Up

Hey friend,

I'm so glad you're here.

Lately, I've been thinking a lot about how much our days are shaped by the way we begin them.

For so many years, my mornings felt rushed. I'd wake up already thinking about work, the endless to-do lists, what needed cleaning, what needed cooking, and what everyone else needed from me.

Somewhere along the way, I realized I was pouring from a cup that was completely empty.

So I made a simple change.

I started waking up before everyone else.

Not because I wanted to become one of those "5 a.m. productivity gurus" we see all over social media, but because I desperately needed a little piece of the day that belonged to me.

As a working mom with a toddler, my mornings can quickly become unpredictable. My workday starts at 6:45 a.m., and my little one usually wakes up sometime between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. If I don't prepare for the day before he wakes, everything feels rushed and chaotic.

These days, my alarm goes off at 4:30 a.m.

And before I do anything else, I stay right where I am.

For about fifteen minutes, I enjoy the quiet. The warmth of the blankets. The stillness of the house. The gentle reminder that for just a little while, nobody needs anything from me.

It might sound small, but those few minutes feel like a gift.

Once I'm up, I drink a glass of water and head out for a walk. Some mornings it's on the treadmill, other mornings it's outside if the weather cooperates. Depending on how I'm feeling, I'll walk anywhere from two to four miles.

Walking has become one of my favorite forms of self-care.

There are no notifications, no demands, no multitasking.

Just movement, fresh air, and space to think.

A few days each week, I'll follow my walk with a short strength training workout. Nothing extreme. Just enough to feel strong, energized, and connected to my body.

Afterward, I refuel with water, a Chobani Complete yogurt, and usually a kombucha. Simple things that help me feel good without overcomplicating my morning.

By around 5:45, you'll usually find me in the garden.

This has quietly become one of my favorite parts of the day.

I water the vegetables, check on what's growing, and sip my protein shake while the sun begins to rise. There is something incredibly grounding about caring for living things before the world fully wakes up.

No scrolling.

No emails.

No noise.

Just me, the garden, and a few peaceful moments to breathe.

After that, I head inside to shower, do my skincare, get dressed, and slowly ease into the day.

Around 7:00 a.m., I make my iced coffee and sit on the patio for a few minutes before my toddler wakes up.

By then, I've already spent nearly three hours caring for myself.

Three hours moving my body.

Three hours clearing my mind.

Three hours remembering that I matter too.

Motherhood has taught me so many beautiful lessons, but one of the hardest has been learning that taking care of ourselves isn't selfish.

It's necessary.

Especially during seasons when life feels heavy.

As a mom, while also navigating grief after losing my own mother, I've learned that peace doesn't usually arrive all at once.

More often, it's found in tiny moments.

A quiet walk.

A cup of coffee.

The sound of water hitting garden soil.

The morning sunlight on your face.

These simple moments have become anchors for me.

They remind me that even in the middle of busy days, work responsibilities, motherhood, and everything else life brings, I am still worthy of care too.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, or like you've somehow disappeared beneath all the responsibilities, maybe start small.

Wake up fifteen minutes earlier.

Sit outside.

Drink your coffee while it's still hot.

Take a short walk.

Find one tiny piece of the day that belongs only to you.

You deserve that.

With love,
